The Hourglass Vanish Stick Foundation is my most expensive foundation till date and this one will definitely go in my “YouTube made me Buy It” video. I totally got sucked into the hype and since I always wanted to try a stick foundation I decided to purchase this.
There are many of you who have asked me about this foundation, so decided to review it here. I got mine from New York as I asked my sister to get it for me because that time it wasn’t launched in Singapore plus it’s a little less expensive (still expensive!) if you get it in the US. But, now it is available in Sephora here in Singapore.
PACKAGING
I love the packaging of this product, feel like I am also paying for the packaging. It is so sleek, so luxurious, when you hold it you immediately know that this is a high-end product. It has a triangular body as you can see in the picture and the foundation stick is also shaped as a triangular bullet so it’s very easy to get into the contours of the face. The twist up mechanism is very smooth and the cap also is very secure. In a nutshell, this is an excellent product to travel with. It doesn’t take up space and there are no worries of your foundation leaking.
The shade selection for the foundation is very good, so many skin tones can get a hand on this foundation. See all the shades here.
QUANTITY
The actual foundation which you get in the stick formula is 0.25 oz / 7.2 gm, which is way less than any of regular foundation. Usually, for any regular liquid foundation you will get at least 1 oz o product.

PRICE
It is Hourglass and we all know their products are super expensive. This foundation stick retails for SGD 76 in Singapore here. But, the quality of the product is such that I will probably repurchase this when I go through my current tube.
COVERAGE
This foundation is a full coverage foundation for sure but I apply a little bit to get a medium coverage. It is marketed as foundation cum concealer in one, so you don’t have to use a concealer with it. It is a very highly pigmented product so you need a tiny bit even for full coverage so for medium coverage I use quite a little bit. I have the shade Amber with me which matches my skin tone quite well. For reference, I am around MAC NC42.
Also, this foundation works best with a dense brush. I have tried using a beauty blender with this but the finish is more flawless and natural when you apply it with a brush.
Here you can see how the foundation looks blended on my arm.
FINISH
I have normal-dry skin (more towards dry side) and you would think that a stick foundation would be quite drying on the skin. But, this one works great for my skin type. It is not exactly a matte finish foundation but it is not overly dewy as well. It gives a very natural flawless finish to the skin. I just love the finish it gives. But yes, if you have dry patches on the skin then it will stick to them. So, if you have extremely dry flaky skin then this probably won’t suit you.
The texture of the foundation is quite thick and heavy and it doesn’t really feel very lightweight on the skin when you initially apply it. But, after a while it settles and blends into the skin really nicely and it doesn’t look like you are wearing foundation and it does feel quite lightweight.
I think it would suit oily skin type as well but I have heard so many reviews from oily skinned people that they don’t like this foundation. So, I guess you have to try it and find out for yourself if you have oily skin.
I just apply a few stripes of the foundation and blend it with my Zoeva Silk Finish Brush.
Here you can see how the foundation looks on me.
STAYING POWER
This foundation has amazing staying power. On me it lasts the whole time I am wearing makeup. It doesn’t look cakey or it doesn’t break apart, it just looks more skin like the more time I wear it. It is a very comfortable foundation to wear.
It is marketed as long-wearing, waterproof formula which provides 12 hour coverage and adjusts to your body temperature to effortlessly blend into the skin. I completely agree with this.
Here is the face after full application of makeup.
Overall, I love that this foundation:
- has a very nice coverage that can be built to full coverage
- has a beautiful packaging
- can give a flawless looking skin
- gives a very natural finish
- last a really long time on the skin
- is very travel friendly
- is waterproof
- has a good shade range
- is Paraben-free, sulfate-free and phthalate-free
I don’t like that the foundation is:
- very expensive
- not cost effective, since you get quite a small amount.
- very difficult to blend with a beauty blender
That’s all for today’s review. Hope this was helpful for whoever you if you are looking into high-end foundations.
Cheers!

Very nice review. This foundation is good but costly.
Nice post 👍👍👍
It has a gorgeous finish! Thanks for sharing 🙂 This is one brand I’ve always wanted to try, but it’s just too expensive for my current budget.
Thanks so much for visiting Tiffany.. yeah its a good product but sometimes I can’t justify the price either..
I really wanted to try this out because of the luxurious feeling. But I have oily skin and donot wish to splurge money on something which might not suit my skin type!! 🙈🙈 But still, i am highly intrigued by this brand and specifically that thin liner you once showed in your video.
